Send SMS with a numeric sender ID — understand how number masking works and its limitations in Malaysia.
Number masking allows you to send SMS using a numeric string as your Sender ID — for example, a specific 10–11 digit number — rather than an alphanumeric name. This is sometimes used when businesses want to display a consistent numeric caller-like ID to recipients.
Malaysian mobile operators no longer allow alphanumeric sender IDs for standard bulk SMS routes. This policy has been in place for a number of years. All standard bulk SMS in Malaysia now use either a numeric sender ID or a registered Sender ID via short code.
Short codes (Level 2) operated directly by Telcos such as Maxis, Celcom, or Digi can still use alphanumeric sender IDs — that is why you may receive messages with sender names like "MYBANK" or "SHOPEE" on your phone. These are sent through Telco-operated short code channels, not through standard bulk SMS routes.
